Overstimulated? Here's a DnD Podcast just for bedtime
The Kingdom Sleeps is taking everything awesome about AP's and putting it in a sleep podcast.
I personally have been listening to DnD podcasts to fall asleep for years. There's a certain itch at bedtime that only the enthusiastic and emotional tones of the Critical Role cast doing their thing can scratch. Trouble is, it's never much longer than 20 minutes before I'm either woken up by some ruckus of excitement from the players, or simply too overstimulated by the plot.
Here's where The Kingdom Sleeps glides in to wrap these disturbances in a soporific blanket. The Kingdom Sleeps is a TTRPG Actual Play podcast specifically designed to lull you into a peaceful sleep with it's immersive, ambient production. But don't think that means the story is filled with meandering nonsense as per a usual sleep podcast! The story takes place in the unique fantasy setting of The Kingdom of Sopros, a land formed eons ago over the back of a sleeping giant (the lore runs deep with this show). The narrative follows the journey of desert hardened Merfolk nomad Yohm, whose life taken an unexpected turn after gaining the strange ability to speak to the free roaming spirits of the land. It focuses largely on emotional and philosophical storytelling that is rendered superbly by the improvisational stylings of the two show hosts, Andrew and Tom.
Self dubbed "Story Master" and show creator Andrew Bond has already been a voice actor for some years now, carrying over some of what his learnt as host for Slumber Studios' Send Me To Sleep Podcast to this new personal project.
Tom Tysoe spends most of his time as an Outdoor Adventure Specialist, so he knows a thing or two about daringly pushing forth into the unknown. It also helps that the two have been playing DnD together since 2018, building up a chemistry that gives an incredible polish to the shows narrative.
So if you think you might like to try a little bit of fantasy to wind down before bed, you can check out the first episode below! Or listen on Spotify or Apple Podcasts, simply by searching The Kingdom Sleeps.
